Nursing Care to Japan: Sagar's SSW Success in Osaka

The Challenge

Sagar pivoted from a general degree to Japan's high-demand nursing care sector. Niigata International connected the language, skills, and employer.

The Journey

Sagar had a bachelor's degree but limited job prospects in Nepal. He learned about Japan's growing demand for nursing care workers under the SSW program — a sector with guaranteed placements and competitive salaries. But the path required passing both the JLPT N4 and the nursing care skills test. Niigata International designed a 9-month dual-track program: Japanese language training (N5 to N4) combined with nursing care terminology and practical skills. His mornings were Japanese classes; his afternoons involved caregiving simulations — proper lifting techniques, patient communication, hygiene protocols. After 6 months, Sagar passed JLPT N4. He then focused entirely on the nursing care skills exam, using study materials provided by Niigata International's Japan-based employer partners. The exam covered body mechanics, infection control, dementia care, and emergency response. Niigata International coordinated with Funtoco Inc., a corporate partner in Osaka, for Sagar's job placement. The employer provided a formal job offer letter, salary details, and accommodation arrangements — all included in the visa application. His SSW visa application was processed through the Japanese embassy in Kathmandu with all documents pre-verified.

The Outcome

Sagar passed both the JLPT N4 and nursing care skills exam. He now works at a care facility in Osaka earning ¥240,000/month with full benefits including housing subsidy and health insurance. His employer is sponsoring his pathway to a full-time care worker certification.

I thought nursing care was not for me until Niigata International showed me the opportunity. The dual training — Japanese plus care skills — prepared me perfectly. Now I have a career, not just a job.
