IELTS 5.5 to 7.0: Prasanna's Path to a UK University Offer in Two Weeks

The Challenge

Prasanna needed to raise his IELTS score by 1.5 bands — and fast. Niigata International's intensive program delivered.

The Journey

Prasanna had been self-studying for the IELTS for months and plateaued at 5.5. He needed at least 6.5 (ideally 7.0) to meet the entry requirements for his target universities in the UK. With application deadlines approaching, time was critical. Niigata International's IELTS coordinator assessed his weak areas: Writing Task 2 structure, Reading speed, and Speaking fluency. A personalized 8-week intensive plan was created with daily 2-hour sessions focusing on these areas. For Writing, Prasanna practiced timed essays with instructor feedback within 24 hours. For Reading, he learned skimming and scanning techniques that cut his average passage time by 40%. For Speaking, he recorded mock interviews and reviewed them with his instructor. Simultaneously, Niigata International helped him draft a powerful Statement of Purpose (SOP) that told his story — why he wanted to study business management, how his family's small business inspired him, and what he planned to bring back to Nepal. Prasanna took the IELTS Academic test and scored Listening 7.5, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5, Speaking 7.0 — an overall 7.0. He submitted his university applications the same week.

The Outcome

Prasanna received an unconditional offer from a UK university within two weeks of submitting his application. His visa was processed in 15 working days. He is now completing his MSc in International Business Management in Manchester.

I was stuck at 5.5 for months. Niigata International's approach was different — they didn't just teach me English, they taught me how the test works. That made all the difference.
