From Pokhara to Osaka: How Bishnu Cleared the SSW on His First Attempt

The Challenge

Bishnu came to Niigata International with a goal: work in Japan in a manufacturing role. He had zero Japanese and no idea where to start.

The Journey

Bishnu enrolled in the 6-month intensive Japanese language program, starting from absolute beginner level. His daily routine included 3 hours of classroom training, kanji drills, and conversation practice with native speakers via video calls. Midway through the course, Bishnu took the NAT-TEST N5 and passed with a strong score. Encouraged, he continued to N4 level while simultaneously preparing for the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) manufacturing skills test. The SSW coordinator arranged mock tests every weekend, simulating the exact format and time pressure of the real exam. Bishnu also attended interview preparation sessions where he practiced responding to common employer questions in Japanese. When application season arrived, the documentation team compiled his educational certificates, language test results, medical clearance, police report, and bank statements into a polished visa file. Every document was attested and translated where needed. His application was submitted to the Japanese embassy in Kathmandu. Within 4 weeks, his Certificate of Eligibility arrived, and two weeks later, his visa was stamped.

The Outcome

Bishnu passed the SSW manufacturing exam on his first attempt. He secured a placement at an automotive parts factory in Osaka with a starting salary of ¥220,000/month. His employer provides housing allowance and health insurance. Bishnu has been working in Osaka for over a year and regularly sends remittances home.

I was so nervous about the Japanese interview, but Niigata International's mock sessions made me feel completely prepared. When the real one came, it felt like just another practice session. The team treated me like family.
